In December 2014, Mary was diagnosed with severe diverticulitis which had perforated her colon.  Emergency surgery was performed and resulted in a colostomy and multiple procedures afterward due to sepsis.  The surgery saved her life and she is now grateful for her colostomy because it has allowed her to continue enjoying life spending time with grandchildren, family and friends.
